UPDATE : 8/2/26

When it comes to restaurants, consistency is key!

Our visits to Fishy Fishy Cafe have always been delightful, with each trip featuring our go-to menu selection: 1 pound of boiled shrimp, French fries, and Cajun Mahi bites with a beverage of choice. We appreciate the unwavering quality, flavor, and atmosphere that Fishy Fishy offers, complemented by top-notch service. To avoid the busy dinner rush, we love stopping by in the mid-late afternoon for a relaxing meal.

Eating at the bar is always a nice option, which also provides

a great view.

Fishy Fishy Cafe, another favorite located in cozy Southport, N.C

Welcome to beautiful Southport, North Carolina, where the pace of life slows down to match the gentle rhythm of the tides. Today, we venture over to Southport—just a few miles from Oak Island—to enjoy another local favorite for some boiled shrimp and the classic dishes we’ve always loved. Let's see what Fishy Fishy has to offer us.

Vibe:

Fishy Fishy Cafe offers a warm, relaxed atmosphere where the staff is incredibly appreciative and energetic. Just walking through the doors seems to lower your blood pressure as you take in the bright, coastal colors and feel the gentle breeze coming off the water.

You have the option of cozy inside seating with expansive water views or venturing outside to the deck to enjoy the fresh salt air. From the waterfront tables, you are treated to spectacular views of the Cape Fear River, including a clear sightline of the iconic Oak Island Lighthousestanding tall on the horizon. It is the perfect spot to slow down, watch the boats glide by, and savor the very best of North Carolina’s coast.

Shrimp quest:

Our quest for the ultimate boiled shrimp brought us back to the charming Fishy Fishy Cafe today. While we were there, we couldn’t resist a few of our other menu favorites—the fresh mahi and that creamy, savory crab dip. But the real star was the shrimp. They arrived at our table steaming hot, and the incredible aroma of Old Bay immediately set our appetites soaring. Every bite was a dream; perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. It was the kind of meal that makes you want to slow down and savor every moment."

The highlights:

Southport is the quintessential eastern North Carolina gem, a quaint town where every street corner feels like a postcard. A stroll through the heart of downtown reveals a treasure trove of charming shops, ranging from unique clothing boutiques and rugged outfitter stores to a classic general store and local art galleries. You can easily spend an afternoon hopping between cozy coffee shops and treating yourself to a scoop of ice cream before heading toward the water.

Just a short, scenic walk from these shops lies the waterfront beauty of Fishy Fishy Cafe. We’ve found that visiting in the mid-afternoon is the perfect way to soak in the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views before the evening rush begins. The experience is always anchored by their incredible boiled shrimp, served steaming hot and coated in just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning. It’s the perfect highlight to a day spent exploring everything this lovely coastal town has to offer, with plenty more dining experiences nearby to keep us coming back for more.

The tweaks:   No tweaks on this visit

Overall a wonderful afternoon at Fishy Fishy Cafe , pleased with the food , service and atmosphere. Cost was consistent with other experiences. My suggestion is to make it a day, enjoy strolling through Southport, sit on the benches overlooking Cape Fear River with a view of Bald Head. Then stroll down to Fishy Fishy for late afternoon before dinner rush.  An added bonus, Bald Head is another wonderful day trip to experience. No cars allowed so you enjoy a short ferry ride, rent a golf cart upon arrival and just tool around the island.
